I hope this question gets pushed to Social because I have to share the mental image that this question immediately brought to mind:
When I was a kid, one of our outdoor cats was running around with a red string/boloney slice casing hanging out of it’s butt. This presented a dilemma. Remove the string, and risk cutting kitty’s hole, or leave it and hope that nature takes it’s course.
That said, I would never eat the casing on deli-meat. It’s technically edible, but not meant to be ett.
If the franks say “natural casing” then the casing is generally hog intestine.
If you like them better peeled, peel them.
Try slicing the franks in ½, longways, and frying then on non-stick. If you have a toaster oven, broil some for the ‘outdoor cookout’ effect. You might need to switch it up a bit to get rid of that much meat before it spoils.
Don’t you have Aldi’s? A buck a frank sounds kind of extravagant to me?
