Back when the Wii was first released, I was one to stand all night in the snow storm to get one for the sake of my child. 2am, I was second in a short line. 4am, the line was a mile long.
6am, the line was two miles long and those in back could be heard arguing. Our little group of the first ten in front line were very careful to watch out for one another.
Ten minutes before the store opened (Toys R Us) a truck pulled up to the crowd and the driver shouted, “All the Wii’s available at Best Buy down the street with no line”.
No lie, two thirds of the people ran to their cars and left, after standing for hours. My crew asked me what I thought… “I think I’m second in line to get a Wii in ten minutes”.
The truck driver waited for the parking lot to clear, then parked, got out, and he joined our line. I was walking out the store when the angry mob returned from Best Buy, having fallen victim to the lie of the truck driver. Boy they sure were angry. Boy they sure were stupid.
