We used to like to play “spoons” at that age. It is a fast-moving card game with lots of action, and lots of laughs. It is kind of like musical chairs. Sit the girls around in a circle, and put one less spoon in the middle than there are girls. Now deal each girl 4 cards. The object of the game is to get 4 cards the same. To do this, the dealer picks the first card from the deck, decides to either keep it and discard to the girl to her left, or keep it and discard one of the cards in her hand. That girl does the same, and around the circle. The last girl just puts her discards in a pile. If the dealer runs out of cards, she used the discard pile. The game is fast, you pass the cards as fast as you can. As soon as one girl gets 4 of a kind, she grabs a spoon, and that cues everyone else to grab a spoon. Obviously, the slowest girl won’t get a spoon and she’s out. Then you take one spoon away, and the game starts again. Sounds kind of lame, but it is really fun.
