“Great Question” (2points)

Opinions differ on that matter. What do you believe? Is there an age limit in playing video games and if you believe that, what is it?

Yes, for the graphically violent and vivid sexual games there must be an age limit.

Why would there be an age limit? My generation is getting older, we are certainly productive adults, and I know several men that schedule “dates” to all log on and play Call of Duty or something similar. It’s a way of escaping reality that’s more interactive than TV. I see no reason to impose age limit pressure.

I started playing games when I was 5 years old.

And now I’m still playing.

Under 8, not recommended.

Do you mean an upper limit? Probably 105. But must people are dead by then.

No. I remember when Pong first came out, and it made me cry when I had found my deceased brother’s old Atari 2600 from the late seventies in my attic closet while cleaning my attic out. Video games have always been a part of my life, from Pong to Pac Man to Metal Gear Solid to Hitman, so I don’t think there’s any certain age limit.

If you are not into video games, or anything else for that matter, you’ll already know when to stop or start doing any one certain thing. People’s opinions along with politically correct age-related behaviors have little meaning to me.

I don’t game as much as I used to, but many times playing a good one beats the hell out of sitting around people who are retarded and have nothing better to do other than either gossiping, or talking about some stupid sale or event. I game, surf the net and read books far more than watching television.

Fuck no, and I wouldn’t even give the time of day to someone who wanted to present their opinion as to otherwise. The only thing I go for is how young someone is. Wouldn’t let a five year old play something like Manhunt.

That’s why games have ratings.

Aaah, ye olde ESRB, what would we do without em.

@AshLeigh, @Symbeline I am not talking about being too young to play video games. I am doing a research in gaming and I would like to see the age range in gaming and if someone could be “too old” (not too young) to play certain games.

The only way I can see someone being too old to play games is if playing the game could pose a problem for them. (eye problems, hand/bone problems, seizures, the list probably goes on)
And even that, in some cases, isn’t reserved just for the elderly.
Games are much more complex and mature these days, and if I’m to trust EGM (electronic gaming monthly magazine) the average gamer is in their thirties. So they’re not just for kids anymore. (but of course, kid oriented games are still made, and plenty at that)

At nursing homes for the elderly they play Wii bowling and Wii fit.

There are 5 year olds who can deal with things that will make 15-year-olds come up with rude comments about your mom, and some 25 year olds to cringe. Maturity and age are largely unrelated, and if you’re worried about warping their “fragile” (though scientifically proven to be more resilient) minds, then keep them away from anywhere where they may see the real world. No leaving the house, no watching TV, just keep them in their protective case in the basement.

If your kid can’t handle the subject matter of a game, it’s more likely to be the result of bad parenting than anything age-related.

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

No. At the lower limit, as long as children aren’t playing games all the time, I think it could be helpful for kids to play games. There should be no upper age. I know some quite old people who are gamers. If they’re keeping their minds active, can’t be a bad thing.

@Earthbound_Misfit As a 40 year old gamer, I agree wholeheartedly.
