What to do after a hard longboard fall?

Hey!

So I’ve been longboarding for a while and never fallen badly, until yesterday. I was going down a big hill I thought I could take, started wobbling, bailed and bit it on the concrete. I rolled a bit but mostly slid, so I scraped up my right side pretty badly. My head only has a small small small bump, so I don’t think i got a concussion. It didn’t hurt that much at the time, I wasn’t even that shaken. However, today, my left side and all my joints are /killing/ me. Every time I bend over I get dizzy and sometimes tunnel vision, and I have a splitting headache in the back of my skull when standing.

Does this sound serious and do you think I have a concussion or just typical trauma from a bad fall? Do you know how long the soreness will stay? Is there anything I should be doing right now to get better? It’s only been a day, so half of me feels it will get better tomorrow, but if any else has had a similar situation, lemme know.

Sorry it’s a big question, and thanks for any help you can offer!

Time to see a doctor.

Urgent Care or ER, STAT!

Changes in vision, dizziness and headache are not something to wait and see about.

I skateboarded for 20+ years and have taken many nasty falls. The aches and pains are normal. Dizzy and tunnel vision is not. You should see a doctor as soon as you can.

I’ll add my vote to those urging you to go to ER ASAP.

If you’re still undecided, spend a few mins. Googling what happened to Liam Neeson’s wife, Natasha Richardson after a small bump on the head from a fall while skiing. And she landed on snow rather than concrete.

You need to get your head checked out. Now.

I would get checked by a doctor. i have been a skater since 1975. if a hill is really steep and fast tighten your trucks and crouch to lower your center of gravity. wear a helmet and leather gloves at a minimum.

How is your balance, any signs of nausea, dizziness, etc.? If you are having headaches it points to a concussion. And I’m coming off a motherfucker of a concussion a year ago. My balance is still messed up.

Hello all!

Thank you for your help—I did not end up going to the doc because 2 days later but seems to be 100% better. If it /was/ a concussion, it must have been extremely mild. I’ll keep monitoring it though, and if it gets worse at all I will go straight to the doc. Again, thanks for everything!
