The free tour by Sandemann New Europe. They cover the most important sights and present Berlin’s history as a series of stories – amusing, shocking, or uplifting ones, but all of them interesting. Takes about three hours, and at the end, you tip the guide a sum you find approppiate.

I learned so much, it completely changed my opinion of city tours. Don’t miss it.

I live in London and regularly travel over there to see family. I think one of the most rewarding things you can do (especially in this great weather) is to book a Berlin on Bike tour. I did a personal tour with a few others and it’s a great experience. You get to see a long stretch of the Wall (25 years in November since it came down!) and listen to personal stories of what it was like living either in West or East (depending on the guide). We did it in about 3.5 hours. Also includes trips through some rarely seen side-streets and courtyards.

Must-see museums are the Jewish Museum, Wall Museum and Stasi Museum.

Book a reservation to go up the Reichstag dome at night, the Jewish Museum, Schloss Charlottenburg, and take the train to the Grunewald residential section and walk around to see the houses. Also, there is a small museum of German Expressionist art that is quite lovely.

My trips to Berlin were brief and topical (when the wall came down, when Roger Waters performed “The Wall”), so I didn’t do much exploring.

I was only there for 3 days so don’t have a lot of experience. I enjoyed seeing Volkspark Humboldthain, Brandenburg Gate, Bauhaus, The Holocaust Memorial, Checkpoint Charlie to name a few. I enjoy the history when traveling. I could have spent the whole time simply walking around, seeing the architecture and drinking the beers.

And if nothing else, walk down some of the downtown streets that have the red brick slanting through the street, noting where the wall USED to be pre-1989.

I loved Berlin – I would go back there in an instant.

I don’t know how adventurous you are, but if I was going to Berlin, I know which B&B I would stay at. It’s a tiny one, about six rooms – but those are beautifully designed. There is one which is all flowery and lush, called “Princess Lounge”, I believe. Another one is furnished like an old-fashioned British bedroom.

The B&B is incredibly cheap – about 16$ per night/person, I think. It is also…run by kids. With adult assistance, children clean, cook, and offer tours of Marzahn (the district). They do so voluntarily, as part of a project. The kids get off the street, have fun, and acquire skills.
