My opinion is some of them don’t even know when they are driving badly. That’s part of the reason they are bad drivers. I think this accounts for the majority of bad drivers. I was convinced of this when Oprah did her no textin while driving campaign and so many people said, “I didn’t even realize it was dangerous.” You have to be an idiot (I usually hate calling names, but seriously I cannot think of any nice or understanding words to describe someone who doesn’t know that when you take your eyes off the road you endanger yourself and others). Add in my sister recently verifying with me a right of way question (she has not driven in many years) because a girlfriend who was driving her somewhere was angry on the road at another driver for not yielding to her, and indeed my sister was right that in fact the other driver had the right of way. My sister will not drive with her anymore, because this is only one of many instances on the road with this woman.
Some of the bad drivers are angry drivers and rather narcisstistic and do expect everyone to move out of the way. They are the sun, and the planets should be revolving around them in every aspect of their life.
Some really aren’t thinking about it, as someone mentioned above, they tend to not be good at predicting consequences in general in their life.
Where I live we have bad drivers partly because there are many tourists who don’t know where they are going and do crazy moves on the road when they realize their turn or exit is coming up. Some come from places that don’t have highways so they are not used to high speeds, or they might live in a city and rarely drive.
Every one of us has been a bad driver at one time or another. A mistake on the road, exhaustian, rushing somewhere, things happen, we aren’t perfect, but some people really need to go to, or back to, driving school.
