In Napa, California?

It happened on a minor fault, the West Napa fault. It occurred between American Canyon CA, and the city of Napa.

American Canyon is an area of relatively new development, mostly less than 30 years old, while downtown Napa has buildings dating back over 100 years. There was a lot more damage in Napa and in nearby Vallejo, because of the age of the buildings.

Are they calling it the napa quake?

Napa is 47 miles north of San Fransisco, CA.

My sister lived 5 miles from the epi-center of the SF Quake that hit in… 89? 90? . She was driving in her Bug and….it suddenly went out of control, like all four wheels had blown at the same time. All the radio stations were down. She said it was weird because everyone on Earth had more info than she, just a few miles away, because all of her communications systems were down.

The 10/17/89 quake was not the SF Quake but the Loma Prieta earthquake. It was centered about 60 miles south of SF, It was closer to Santa Cruz/ San Jose than to SF..
