Would you use black magic or sorcery to bring back a loved one from the dead if you could?

“Great Question” (2points)

While watching a classic thriller series a man dabbling in sorcery accidently killed his only son. He sought to bring the young man back by way of black magic and sorcery. If you had the chance, would you bring back someone you lost from the dead by way of black magic or sorcery? Would the cost to have such dark arts performed be a hindrance to you or would you sell everything, go in debt to the hilt to be able to obtain it or have it performed on behalf of the one you wish to bring back? What if you were told there would be unforeseen circumstances in doing it and some could be very bad, for you, for them, for both of you, or society in general, would you still do it?

Yes but would said loved one be normal, or like the guy in American werewolf in London ?

Sometimes dead is better.

jonsblond's avatar

Did you not watch Pet Sematary?

It’s unclear to me from the wording of the question whether you’re asking “would you use either of these methods?” or “since you’re going to do this thing, then which of these methods would you prefer to use?”

Personally, I’d prefer a straight-up bribe, if I knew who to pay it to. I don’t know how black magic and sorcery work (or indeed, if they work at all), and I certainly don’t know how much they cost. On the other hand, if you find the right palm to cross with silver – and if it really is the right palm, after all! – then bribery usually works better, I think. Plus it has the added benefit that you generally know the cost exactly.

It would be tempting but no. There are people who have gone that I’d love to speak to again, but as @jonsblond said, I’ve seen Pet Cemetary and the thought of them coming back and not being as they were is horrible. So no. Let them rest.

That would be the point, you don’t know. They might be fine, but it could cause something to happen to you, or another person you love or who is in the family. It may affect society, all dogs might get parvo, women might start miscarrying, threes might die off, etc.

Either or, whichever would bring back the loved one. And once you determined which would do it, would you go ahead if you knew there was a possibility of negatives happening even if not define or confirmed as absolute.

I don’t know how black magic and sorcery work (or indeed, if they work at all), and I certainly don’t know how much they cost.
For the sake of the question, you know it works, even if you do not know how it works. The cost is not cheap, and whatever the pervayer of the arts will charge you for his/her services, but for the sake of argument let’s say it is the upper 6 figures.

Hell no, everyone that’s dead should stay dead, now maybe I’d bring back a pet or 5. haha

Buttonstc's avatar

No. Not under any circumstances.

kritiper's avatar

Sorcery. With black magic there’s always a drawback.

If I had somebody brought back, are they going to stay back, or are they doomed to die again?

Would it have to be a loved one? I have a relative I would love to keep bringing back, just to watch them go again, and again.

Here2_4's avatar

Some of us may be over thinking the question, but if I’m going to consider dabbling, I think I should have all the details I can get.

Can we choose more than one? I have some deceased friends with a sense of humor, and we might get some great malpractice suits going.

flutherother's avatar

No, too scary. Anyway I’ll be joining them in due course.

trailsillustrated's avatar

No, not if it might go bad

ucme's avatar

Not Black Magic, maybe Milk Tray or Terry’s All Gold.

ragingloli's avatar

Listen, mate, I am a level 60 Necromancer. I do that all the time.

chyna's avatar

No. I miss my mom so much, but I would be afraid if I brought her back, she would come back in the same bad health she suffered with that killed her.
And what @jonsblond said!

gailcalled's avatar

In the traditional lexicon, black magic and sorcery are synonymous, if anyone cares..

big if

That is a good question, I don’t have an answer but if they are brought back it would not be by natural powers, so I guess they would not die again by natural processed, but by some supernatural means the way they were reanimated.

Would it have to be a loved one?
I am sure it doesn’t have to be, but with all the fuss and cost it would likely take, I can’t see anyone doing for just an old bowling buddy, are the dude they hacked around with in college.

Can we choose more than one?
If you had the cash to procure the service for dozens of people, I cannot see why not. Of course any negative occurrences might be compouinded, but I don’t see any limitations on it.

In that case, I bring back a high school chum, we make tons of money with a malpractice suit, proving she is not dead should do it. Once the money starts coming from the malpractice suit, we bring back others.
Maybe I could take out a huge insurance policy, die, and they could bring me back. This being dead thing could pay for itself, if we do it right.
We could hang together, and things would rock, again.

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

@Here2_4 We could hang together, and things would rock, again.
Some might not come back the way you knew them and they would have no interest in bilking the insurance companies, but strangling everyone you care about, etc.

Here2_4's avatar

If you are going to poop the party, why did you ask?
My friends will come back fun, and after we make tons of money, we will be a rocking bunch again. Maybe we will go around strangling party poops.

talljasperman's avatar

I would use science first.

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

^^ If you are going to poop the party, why did you ask?
You asked for the additional details, I gave it. If you did not like the posted parameters why answer? ~~

Here2_4's avatar

I answered, because I would, but once I did answer, you seemed to be trying to talk me out of it. Why not just accept that I said I would? Of course, I did say I would bring back one first, then having successfully won a lawsuit or two, bring back others. Obviously, bringing back the others would be contingent on the cooperative nature of the first.
I would stick my tongue out and declare, “So there!”, but I don’t know which direction to aim it.

Shoot yes I’d make a deal with the devil to bring back my Father. He died way too young. He was only 32 and I was 4. I’ve lived twice as long as he did and he did twice as much as I have. I’m so proud of my Father and would like to have known him better.

cazzie's avatar

I’ve read too much Stephen King to know that it is always a trap. I often dream about my parents, one or the other in a dream, and that they are still alive, for some reason or another, and their presence in the dream is never a surprise or scary, but that is only in my dreams.

Araphel's avatar

No, I say this because, to have that person back in your life from the dead, inside they are gone, all memories, thoughts, humor gone, just an empty shell.

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

^ You can make new ones, maybe.
