I hate HMO’s. I hate them, because usually they are set up do you have to see your primary care doctor first for everything. Then, they have to agree to refer you to a specialist if you need one. Then, you have to hope their office does the paperwork correctly, hope the specialists office doesn’t misplace the paperwork, and hope that all happens before you arrive for your appointment at the specialist.
Also, usually, HMO’s have higher premiums, but depending on how often you go to the doctor and the care you need, it might not cost more off you by the end of the year.
The one good thing about HMO’s is you almost never see a bill and you can remain ignorant to the incredible theft and dishonesty in the system. There is something to be said for ignorance being bliss.
When I buy insurance I tend to just bite the bullet and realize in a year I can change it if I hate it, and hope for the best.
Did you look at the government options?
