Fans of animation: what's your opinion of "Over The Garden Wall"?

“Great Question” (2points)

I know that there are several folks on Fluther who are real fans of animation.

This is a new mini-series currently airing on Cartoon Network.

It’s getting mixed reviews. Some praise it for the throwback quality of its style.

Others find the simplicity of the plot lacking.

So, what say you?

If they’re arguing simplicity of plot, they need look no further than the mind numbing array of stupid and simple plot stories on the rest of Cartoon Network.

I don’t get Cartoon Network, so I had to watch only portions of the show on the Internet. That said, it was impossible to assess plot. But the bits of the shows I did get to see offered enough to intrigue me. They also showed a bit of mature humor as well as some slapstick to keep the kids content. There were some catchy songs too.

Just watched the trailer and haven’t seen any episodes. By the looks of it, it’s a good natured tale for kids. No violent, really scary images or action.

Don’t have cable and no idea what kinds of animation CN is airing these days. Just guessing “Over The Garden Wall” could be a cool respite from other way more intense animated series.

I’m on the fence trying to decide if it’s worth investing 10 hrs. of my time :)

First, it’s not 10hrs of time, it’s less than 2hrs. There are only 10eps and each of them are only 11 minutes long.

I watched the whole series last night, I absolutely loved it and am a bit upset that there isn’t going to be more of this show coming. Throughout, I felt the show had a real magical feel to it, almost like I get from watching Ghibli films. The overall story isn’t super complex but there is still enough to keep the show moving along and by the end of the series you find you’ve grown quite fond of each of the characters. There is also a lot of music throughout the series that I really enjoyed, I’m not sure how exactly to describe the songs but they were nice IMO. (and now I have one stuck in my head again)

I highly recommend the series.

I was assuming each episode was an hour (or ½ hour long.)

Thanks for the time facts and the reco. I probably will give it a try.
