“Great Question” (2points)

One of my best friends has been in the hospital for 7 days with abscesses on the liver. He has multiple abscesses and a fever over 102 for days. The antibiotics are not helping and he is going in for surgery on Friday. I was reading and found this, which made me feel anxious about his prognosis http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000261.htm Does anyone know someone who had this surgery and how did it go? Should I be worried for him? He is strong and in his 40’s but apparently it can lead to sepsis, which I know is deadly. Please let me know if you have any experience with this and how his recovery will be, too. Thanks.

Yes, my father had an infection that spread to multiple organs, including the liver. The cause was never found out, and they drained the abscesses using laproscopic surgery. He made a full recovery. I know this is an old question, so I hope your friend came through it okay.
