It’s not GMO per se – but the modern wheat (now known as dwarf wheat and semi-dwarf wheat) that farmers grow now has been modified by seed companies that choose particular strains of a plant with desirable characteristics, and bred them to reinforce those characteristics. It looks nothing like the wheat of my childhood.

It’s short, stocky and meant to produce higher yields.. but it’s irrefutable that since this modern wheat has been used to produce products the incidence of gluten intolerance, Celiac and even misdiagnosed fibromyalgia due to high gluten content products.
The one that I fear for the future is any sort of mutation with Kudzu. If you’re not from a Southern US state or are unfamiliar with this powerfully invasive species see here for more information.
Imagine if poison ivy or any other poisonous plant mutated with Kudzu? This plant scares me all by itself…and a mutation of this plant spooks me all the more!
