“Great Question” (3points)

The scene where Meg tells Tom not to take all the caviar, that the caviar is a garnish. What is the big, round yellow piece he takes it from? Caviar pie? It looks spongey. There are tomatoes in the center, well, I assume they’re tomatoes. They’re red.

I tried looking it up but can’t find the answer. Would anyone here know?

You made me curious enough to look it up. It’s egg salad. Apparently a common garnish to an egg salad mold is caviar. There are even recipes called Caviar Pie in which the top of the molded egg salad is smeared with a layer of caviar. Sounds good to an umami lover like me.

I even found a reference to the movie scene here:

In “You’ve Got Mail,” another Nora Ephron film, Meg Ryan scolds Hanks for taking all the caviar garnish from the rim of an egg salad mold and begins to carve a turkey sitting on a buffet table during a pre-Thanksgiving party at an author’s home.
