Do you still say this instead of laughing?

One of my Facebook friends says, “too funny.” Now his girlfriend is saying it too. Do you say it? I think it’s a substitute for true laughter. In other words, someone says something they think is funny but you don’t. So you say, “too funny” instead of faking a laugh.

I never say that & agree it is no more than a pompous affectation used by insincere idiots.

I don’t say it but I don’t take it to mean someone else thinks it’s funny but I don’t. I take it to mean they are just verbalizing that something is very funny. It’s similar to saying “too cute.” “That is too cute!” I take that to mean it’s way too cute, very cute, etc.

He says it to agree that he, too thinks something is funny but he really doesn’t so he just says, “too funny.” It’s really quite different from saying, “too cute” or “that was mean.” Those sound like sincere remarks. There is no agenda involved with the latter.

@Aster: How can you know for sure whether or not he really thinks something is funny?

I’ve said it. Usually I’m trying to acknowledge the humor in a story that didn’t produce a full-on belly-laugh. The intention is positive.

I agree with @gorillapaws. It’s like a brushoff type of statement.

Whenever he has said, “too funny” I personally found the so-called remark to be not at all funny. But of course, he could be laughing his head off when he says it. Imagine a huge belly laugh bellowing out from someone and , in the middle of this, you hear, “too funny. ” It would be unnecessary to say it while in that condition.

To me, it’s like he’s saying “that was somewhat funny now let’s move on.” Like “that was funny. Next!”

I say it. I say it when something is really funny. I don’t use it most of time, but I do use it.

It seems to me to be a sarcastic remark.

Just a variation of haha or lol.

I use it sometimes. It’s not meant to be a brushoff or anything else negative. It’s simply when I find something funny but it did not illicit a reactive laugh. In text I use it in place of LOLs and such.

I say “No shit!”
