How do I reshape this haircut to make it look good?

So I had thick long hair and I wanted to shorten it a little bit. I wanted layers… The hair dresser made me look like one of those emo kids or women from the 80s. Here is what my hair looks like now:

The top layers are even shorter than these two photos… they hang above my ears, right eye angle! It looks awful and makes my head look huge.

What I want is similar to this hairstyle:

Any hope? How? I will see some hair dressers soon but I can’t help feeling anxious and sad about this situation!

It is understandable how you feel. Most of us have felt the same way after altering a hairstyle that didn’t work out to our initial vision. What we have learned is that this isn’t an earth-shattering issue. It’s a temporary adjustment.

If it is that important to you, seek the aid of another resource armed with photos of what you want. They may be able to fix it or advise you on the next steps. In the meantime, take comfort in that your hair will eventually grow out and the style can be modified in the meantime.

And if that isn’t working, read up on some world news reports. The atrocities occurring outside of my limited life always snap me back into reality.

@Pied_Pfeffer I can’t even fall asleep.

@dopeguru If you cannot understand that a hair style is only temporary and not something to dwell on, then one or more negative factors are occurring in your life. There are a wide range of reasons as to why this might occur.

The inability to even fall asleep can be caused by a variety of factors. Please provide more information. Are you seeing a therapist? How old are you? Are you taking medication? What is your family history, be it mental, physical or emotional? Please don’t answer; they are questions that you should consider. All I can tell you based upon posts so far is that you need outside guidance. There is nothing wrong with that.

I am so thankful for the advent of cell phones. Prior to that I had to resort to a very wrinkled and worn copy of an old Libda Dano pic when she had short hair.

From the pics you posted, it appears that she took off quite a bit more hair than you really wished for. Unfortunately, the solution for that is to let it grow out enough to be styled in the manner you want.

It’s not like hair can be added to replace what’s been removed (unless you pay major big bucks and a few hours of time for hair extensions.)

But that’s a pretty drastic and expensive solution for what is clearly a temporary problem. Since your hair is naturally thick (as is mine) it will grow out fast.

The only other possibility is to cut it shorter still. Because I have such thick and voluminous hair, that’s what I do and it makes it so much easier to control.

But now that you’ve found photos of what you desire your hair to look like, just keep them on your phone and show them to the hairdresser prior to her even picking up the scissors.

If you give them a clear definite picture of what you want, any competent hairdresser should be able to get it close to what you want.

That’s why they usually have magazines or photo collections of a wide variety of hairstyles for customers to look through. They want to do a good job for you so you’ll be happy.

But this is definitely a case where the old saying is true:A picture is worth a thousand words.

Cut the bottom to your shoulder and use gel in your hair after you wash. Run your fingers through it and let it dry naturally.
Before it dries. Make ringlets with your finger as you place the gel in. Once its dry softly run your fingers through it separating the ringlets gently. Toss your head forward and back once and let them fall where they may.

What I do is i tie parts of my hair on the back and it looks fine and even. I know for sure there’s NO WAY for me to leave it open in any second. Its hideous and doesn’t look like anything. So do you think its possible for me to get away with tying parts of it in the back?

I love the haircut you got. Unfortunately, because it was cut, reshaping won’t help because it’s just cutting more. Tying parts back is a great idea, you can plait parts too.
