[Extremely NSFW] Do you think this nude photograph is appropriate for an art class?

I am taking a summer art class at my community college and we are required to do a drawing of the human body, and it can be original or based on someone else’s photography, with the original source included. I originally wanted to draw the female body, but I chose to draw this photograph instead because I think the model looks quite angelic and I think the cherub quality will be fantastic as a sketch. However, he does strike me as looking very young, even though he is definitely 19.

Do you think I should go with this or choose something else? Also what is your opinion on the nudity in this photograph? Do you think it’s artistic? Or gratuitous?

Penis is flaccid.. Artistic. And I do get why you get the angelic vibe. Something Michelangelo would have done.

Since you definitely know he’s 19, I don’t see a problem. Just because we are more used to seeing a female body totally nude means nothing in the context of an art class body study.

And there is something very innocent looking about him so I understand why you find the picture attractive.

I would be really surprised if you got any flack for using this. The instructions were clear and this meets the parameters.

There is also a very calm, relaxed vibe and the nudity is almost incidental here.

I think it’s a beautiful (and artistic) photo. Use it.

Seems legit to me. Can you give him wings? or would that violate the rules of the assignment?

I don’t see anything wrong with it. The problem with underage models is exploitation, not their appearance. That’s why we still care when they don’t look young. And if you’re really worried, you can always age him up a little in your sketch.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it; however, but my preference would be not to show the model’s face.

@Pachy Really? I find his face the most compelling aspect of the photo; if anything, I would downplay the genitalia, not for any prudish reason but because I find it jarring in the context of the youth and innocence of the face.

I think it’s cool and agree with the angelic tones.

It is fine.
Make sure you undo the genital mutilation in your drawing.

@ragingloli I think circumcision is wrong as well, but I don’t think an uncircumcised penis looks very good in a drawing

I would have gone with the woman, he may have had a physique but I could not draw it even with a pasty over the dumb stick. The human body (as long as it is not an out of shape American) is a beautiful work of art. It is more what the mind does with nakedness than the nakedness alone, which is the reason why redacted.
