It’s not that other people underestimate me; if anything, the challenge is when they assume that I think and act as they do. When I don’t, they don’t understand why.
Have you ever been in a situation where a task is given to two people and they approach it differently, yet they net similar results? I have. As someone not strategic by nature, it takes more time to to muddle through the details. Instinct says to jump in and adjust along the way. This method can get messy, but the end result usually comes out the same.
What I’ve learned from experience and feedback is to utilize others with strategy as a strength and those that are involved. It takes longer than doing it myself, but the end result is a better resolution.
