The US hadn’t really intended to spend any money in Syria until it absolutely had to, and now we don’t have to. So that’s a long term plus.
I also think that having Russia in the middle east is not necessarily a bad thing. The US has been the policeman there for a while, with mixed success – even minimal success. So having Russia take over some of it, isn’t bad. Let the terrorists bomb Moscow.
I also believe that Obama is probably correct when he said that Russia isn’t making the smartest move here/ They’re more than likely to find it just as difficult to get out of Syria as the US did getting out of Iraq and Afghanistan. Putin may be making some short term victories, but it could well be a long term mess.
