Chinese hot mustard and Japanese wasabi (both horseradish based?) cause not only tingling in my nose and watering of the eyes, but I also feel sharp, shooting sensations across my scalp. (Others at the table always look at me strangely when I grab the top of my head). Physiologically, what’s going on?
