Do you feel frustrated about an issue after reading the news and feel you want to do something about it?

“Great Question” (2points)

Often after reading the news I feel empathetic with something bad that has happened to other people (e.g. earthquake) or just something that really frustrates me (e.g. lobbying power of petrol car dealers against electric cars) or something I really want to happen (e.g. all the nations at the Paris Climate Conference to take bold action against climate change). However, news media often just serve you the bad news and there is no option of taking an action and changing the situation.

After you do some research you can perhaps find a climate march to join in or a way to donate money to the people affected by the earthquake, but it takes some digging and is not so straightforward; and for some issues there is no actions that you can take even after researching online.

Have you experienced the same kind of feeling after reading the news? Have you had the same problem of not being able to find a way to take action about an issue?

The Columbine school shooting just devastated me. So much tragedy. I would call up the face photos of the two boys and stare and stare at them, like there should be some sort of answer.

And think of the families of the two boys who did the shooting. Loosing your child and knowing that you’s unwittingly raised a human that could do such unspeakable acts.

Odd that it could be so hurtful to me all these years later, when the only connection to the shooting I had was empathy.

If there is a news story that catches my attention, or a situation that has some history, I try to read various sources about it. That way you end up getting a better idea of what really happened, or how it ties in, or what you can do, etc.
Different sources are out to appeal to different types of readers.
I always wonder about the those who show the public too much graphic coverage. It makes me think of individuals who rubberneck accidents.

ibstubro does this happen often or just for topics that you really care about?

Only occasionally, @care, and usually horrific things seemingly normal kids do.

I obsessed a bit about the Bevers in Broken Arrow. Still following that one.
