What was the biggest issue you faced when having your children?

“Great Question” (1points)

Was it managing your job, money woes, health issues, lack of space, leaving studies behind for a while, age or not having family support? Where did your greatest worry come from when you found out the news that you would become a parent?

Were your fears founded or did you find a way round the problems?

Health issues, no family support, mostly. Some money problems toward the end.

Certainly the almost dying in the maternity ward was the hardest part.

This reminds me of something that makes me glad that you asked this in Social, so I don’t have to actually respond to the question…

Years ago I had a widowed uncle in his late 70s who had started to date an age-appropriate woman. (I’m not sure how old she was because I never met her and he didn’t actually mention her age.) He said that they had been getting closer, and even started talking about a possible marriage, but that that idea fell through.

It turns out that since he was a confirmed and lifelong Episcopalian, and she was a committed Catholic, they could not agree on which faith in which to raise the children.

My immaturity and simplistic belief that love would see us through and money.

After I had my son, the biggest issue I faced was my frustration at the relentlessness of it.

My biggest worry (and I have yet to escape it) was around my ability to “come up with the goods” required to attain a sound well balanced adulthood. Back then it was the financial hurdles which terrified me, and I was lucky. I never even considered the fact that children with parents richer than God also wind up hurling themselves from bridges and dying from heroin overdoses. Now it’s the grandkids that have me chewing my nails over their trip through the minefield of life. The wife of course, never worried about a thing, and still doesn’t. Puzzles the shit out of me, because I consider her a very smart woman.

I was waiting for the terrible behavior that people told me would occur, and didn’t. I was waiting for the temper tantrum in the store. Didn’t happen. I was waiting to never sleep when she was a baby, because that’s what people said would happen. I slept wonderfully then because she did, too.

What was hard was being a single parent, but I didn’t know any other way and I did and still do have a lot of help from my parents, in the form of babysitting, so that’s great and so helpful.
