5 planets! And a meteor! Have you seen the sky show?

“Great Question” (4points)

It started this morning (20 January 2016), and it is supposed to continue up until 20 February 2016. The five naked-eye planets will be visible in the morning sky, with the addition of a “comet” for the first few weeks, I think this will be worth the effort to rise a little early.

I heard about this on NPR today.
Rise early because Mercury will be the last to appear, early morning. It will also be the hardest to spot, as it will be closest to the Eastern horizon.
Did I hear correctly that Mercury will appear red?

Thanks for the reminder! I hope the sky will be clear here for me to see it.
Reminds me of Gailcalled. She loved this kind of thing.

Since I walk to work at 5:30 in the morning, I am looking forward to it. It was quite lovely last Fall when Jupiter, Venus, and Mars were almost on top of each other.

Now all I need are a couple of mornings with clear skies. Haven’t had one in a while.

Passed this info into my girl. She’s a big astronomy need! :)

I wouldn’t get your hopes up about spotting Mercury. It’s going to be just above the horizon, but also near sunrise. I usually can’t even seen Venus in those conditions.

I think Mercury is to be more visible after the first part of Feb, @Kropotkin.
