Why did Fox fire Sarah Palin?

I never watched her on it so I’m not trying to imply that they shouldn’t have, or anything.

I’m sure it was her voice. It annoys the hell out of me.

Palin called out Fox for rehashing the Josh Duggar sex molestation trial to where Fox let Megan Kelly interview the Josh’s sisters again. Palin felt it was unnecessary to again bring duress and media slobbering to these girls who had already been victimized once before and did not need or deserve another trip through the media wringer all in the name of ratings. I applaud Palin for having the courage to stand up to the very network she worked for…she lost her job but not her principals.

Josh Duggar never went to trial. His parents covered up the situation and the statute of limitations expired.

I think she lost her shock value and/or relevance.

And yet those poor beleaguered Duggar sisters could simply have turned down the request for that interview. Nobody forced them to do it.

And likewise no one forced them to do the subsequent follow up reality 3 part special (entitled “Jill and Jessa: Counting On”) which aired on TLC in Dec.

. That was even more intrusive yet. But apparently that TV money and/or fame is hard to turn down so they eagerly signed up for another round.

So, Palin was fighting a losing battle because they were still eager for that reality TV spotlight.

Telling Fox to knock it off does little good if these girls themselves are willing participants in further airings of this three ring circus. So who is exploiting whom?

I am confused. Did Palin quit or did Fox fire her? My guess is that whatever happened was about money. Either Fox thought Palin was not worth what she was being paid or Palin thought she could make more money on her own shows. Both Fox and Palin are pretty light on principles.

Fox failed to renew Palin’s contract, @jaytkay.

Fox had it’s doubts in 2013, then signed her anyway.

You don’t have to pay millions for a celebrity spokesperson that represents a relative handful of nutjobs.
As you can see, Fox is getting The Donald and The Bombshell for free, and they’re still the only major news organization that will report the campaign with a straight face.

Why buy the milk when you can get the cow for free?

^ So If I support Palin I’m in a minority… one of a handful so to speak. It’s true because someone said so on the Internet.

And I’ll be considered a nutjob… That doesn’t feel very good either.

What others think of me is very important to me. What can I do?

I know! I’ll cease to support Palin!

Hmm, what’s for lunch?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Oh, you are definitely in the minority, @SecondHandStoke, but you’re free to support whomever you want.
I don’t know other people’s reasons for not supporting her, but things like this really leave a bad taste in my mouth.
It was her own family who instigated the brawl. Her own children, who she raised.
Disgusting behavior.

@Dutchess

Basically all that incident proves is that Palin’ s kids can’t handle their liquor. (And since the church of which she is a member generally prohibits drinking altogether, it’s no small wonder that the younger Palins never learned balance regarding alcohol. That’s what an all or nothing approach generally results in.)

There is only so much control one has once their kids reach late teens and by their twenties, they’re adults accountable for their own ridiculous selves.

However, what I find most disturbing about her specifically is the degree to which she remains willfully ignorant about a host of subjects.

Even tho McCain’s advisors attempted to coach and educate her, she basically did not cooperate at all (according to several inside sources) feeling she was above it all.

So, in the famous interview with Katie Couric, she came off as a total dumbass (which she is on many important subjects) and tried to play the pity card by calling it a “gotcha” interview.

Both she and Shrub (Dubya) share this quality of smug anti-intellectualism coupled with no curiosity or capacity for self reflection. These are the type of people who totally fail to learn from the lessons of the past and are doomed to repeat them.

That’s what leaves a bad taste in my mouth regarding her. She is hopelessly stupid and utterly unwilling to do anything about it.

Maybe Fox got fed up with that.

@Dutchess_III

I didn’t actually say that I supported Palin. That wasn’t the point.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Shrub…I never head that before! LOL!

Re:SHRUB

I just borrowed the appellation because I found it so delightfully appropriate (He’s not even half the man his father is.)

Credit for “Shrub” must go to Molly Ivins, a feisty and well respected Texas journalist who originally coined the term.

RIP: Molly

Awww. @Buttonstc That makes me nostalgic for Ann Richards, a feisty and well respected Texas politician who coined the term “Born with a silver foot in his mouth” for GHWBush.

RIP: Barbara

Molly was a true Texas original. Her insight and humor are sorely missed here in the Lone Star State.

Buttonstc's avatar

@ibstubro

Who is Barbara?

I’m sure that Molly and Ann were kindred spirits in terms of being feisty, no nonsense critics of “politics as usual” but with a wicked sense of humor.

The state of Texas is poorer without their presence. I mean, Rick Perry?...Really?

Does the addition of the glasses really fool anybody into thinking he’s really smart now ?

:D

@Buttonstc

The current political crisis (and yes, I believe it’s a crisis) in the US has me nostalgic for George and Barbara.
At the time I felt there was more decent natured rivalry between the Bushes and Richards. No the vitriol we’re seeing today.

Buttonstc's avatar

You’re right about the vitriol. And I think that a good part of the blame for that trend can be laid squarely at the feet of Shrub’s head honcho, Karl Rove.

They’re the ones who, during the primaries of his first run, went all out to sink McCain in the South by suggesting the rumor that he had fathered a bi-racial child (when in actuality they had adopted their daughter rescuing her from extreme poverty. I forget the country; India maybe?) but there’s no doubt her skin is not lily white as can be seen in family photos.

That’s about as lowdown dirty politics as you can get.

EDIT : correct info about the adopted child.

“As for Bridget, her story with the McCains began in 1993 when Cindy visited Bangladesh and met the baby at an orphanage, who had a severe cleft palate.

Cindy decided to bring the baby back to the United States, where she underwent years of surgery. Today, she’s a typical 17-year-old.”
