I like questions that are answerable by finding precedents in history or other countries or cultures that a lot of people are unaware of. I see no sense in re-inventing the wheel. That encompasses a lot of subjects. As to political questions, I mostly lurk. We have some pretty good political analysts here, I think. I stink when it comes to predicting the future. This is one of the few exposures I have to my countrymen, so I’m interested in what they think, it’s only been lately that I’ll answer a couple and then only from a historical perspective. I see a lot of good people unknowingly buying into revisionist history nowadays.
I’m always conflicted when I see something blatantly chauvinistic or bigoted and can never decide to let it pass without comment to not feed the trolls, or to speak out against it on principle. It depends on the mood and the amount of caffeine I’ve consumed that day.
I especially like questions having to do with art and literature, but there aren’t a lot of those.
i mostly lurk on religious questions although my hot button is proselytizers of any ilk. I don’t really care what other people believe. I was inured to religion and philosophy by ten years of Catholic school. It’s old and I find both subjects mind-numbingly boring. But proselytizers are fucking annoying and i might take a flamethrower to one now and then just for fun. Or I might write something off the wall that I think is hillarious just to break the tedium, only to find nobody gets it.
I lurk and lurve a lot mostly. I want a person who gives a good answer or tells a good story to feel appreciated and hang around for awhile. People here often say that lurve isn’t important, but I disagree bigtime. Many of us oldtimers may never get the points due to saturation, but it’s nice to see a little lurve under your response now and then.
