Will a homemade bong always need a carb?

So I made a bong out of a 1 liter Coca Cola bottle, cut a almost perfect sized whole for my downstem then taped it up so it is near airtight around a sharpie pen body that I used for the downstem, then I took the sharpie cap cut it in half flipped it over and it fits together perfectly for a bowl piece that I can take off because the writing side is out of the bottle, now I do have a hole on the back that is taped up but I have it so I can easily take it off without problem, I am not worried that the weed will fall through because the bowl peice is perfectly sized, but do I need to untape the carb when I take of the bowl cap piece it allows more air to flow through but will this work without the carb.

We had a very large bong when i was in a fraternity that did not have a carburetor. But it did have a removable bowl, so after smoking the bowl, we popped the bowl to act as a carb. Worked well.

We weren’t that sophisticated. We had the cardboard roll of a toilet paper, cut out a quarter sized hole, put aluminum foil in the hole and poked a few holes in the foil. Hold hand over one end after lighting pot and inhale from the other end.

@chyna Haha, I remember doing that too. That was over 40 years ago now. Wowser, hard to believe!

@Coloma Yes it was over 40 years ago. And see? It didn’t affect my memory.

I’m such a goody-two-shoes, I thought that “carb” meant “carbohydrate.” I read your question to learn what bread, potatoes, pasta, etc. has to do with bongs.

That seems like a lot of effort for something that could just as easily be done with a socket or a Pepsi can.

@chyna haha, me either, still sharp as a tack, it would take a lot more than a little weed to dim my bulb. My body will fail long before my brain.

I’ve just uncorked a ‘92 Le Pin pomerol into a Riedel decanter.

I’ve also had a shower and shave.

I’m in the living room of my own home seated on danish midcentury furniture.

Dali’s Car is playing on the Bang & Olufsen hifi.

Cigarettes by Nat Sherman are available.

Anyone care to join me?

@SecondHandStoke I’m there. Just cracked my 2nd Pacifico Cerveza, watered my flowers and am now contemplating dinner here on the west coast at 7:41 p.m.
Cheers!

Yes, it would be a big help in clearing all of the cold, cough producing smoke out of the unit. A small hole can be made with a cheap, low powered BB gun. Shoot squarely at the center of the bottom of the bottle. Watch out for the ricocheting BB or you’ll shoot your eye out!

Why not just buy a nice bong?

zenvelo's avatar

^^^^Reduce, reuse, recycle.

Coloma's avatar

@zenvelo haha, point taken, but, if I were to go looking for a bong these days, I’d want it to be an aesthetically appealing art form of a bong, right? ;-)

zenvelo's avatar

@Coloma well, yes, the greenest thing to do would be to never get a one lite plastic coke bottle, and go down to a local artisan to make one a good aesthetically pleasing clay bong to last for years.

Dude! Just go to Amazon.

I know it was a lot of work but it only took me about 15 minutes and it rips like no other, haha I tried it out yesterday and the person smoking with me LOVED it and the reason I put forward the effort was because everyone keeps breaking their bongs for some reason
