“Great Question” (4points)

There are chances of differences between hierarchies / expectations from different roles at different levels. How to be prepared for such gaps / any other things to consider while applying for managerial position in particular?

First, do I really want the headaches? Next, am I qualified?

Don’t think you can be employees friend, you are applying for the role of the boss be the boss.
also don’t tell anyone to do something that you yourself wouldn’t do.
prioritize and motivate, do not intimidate and humiliate .

Like owners , managers don’t get overtime pay ( I would check into that) ,and they can work you more than the 12 hour per day limit.

Make sure that you are NOT paid a set salary but rather for the hours that you work.
I knew someone whom took a set salary and worked more hours than he normally would had if paid by the hour.
Employers expect a manager to be on call 24 hrs a day, holidays or not?
For the amount of income it is not worth poor health and stress that becomes of the meager title of manager.

- Get a copy of the job description. Ask the hiring manager to explain each responsibility and how success is measured.

- Find out what training is offered to set you up for success. If you will be managing others, you need to know employment laws, the company’s rules, both HR and ethics related. If they use technology, jargon, etc., that you are unfamiliar with, it will require time to get up-to-speed.

- Managing others is a huge responsibility. You will become a topic of discussion at your employees’ dinner tables every night. Find out how to support your direct reports the way that they want and not necessarily the way you want. Make sure you provide positive and constructive feedback in a timely, sincerely, and specific manner.
