I tried to watch it. Girlfriend fell asleep some ways into it, and neither of us really wanted to return to watch the rest. It seemed like it had interesting aspects, and was designed to stir up feelings around aging, identity, intimacy and magic, so I think it is liable to trigger viewers.
If you read F. Scott’s wiki page, Benjamin Button appears to experience similar things that Scott experienced in his own life. Kinda like an autobiography in reverse.
I liked it, a little slow in places but kept my attention for the most part. I saw it years ago now. Personally I think that is how life should be, backwards. Born old get younger and younger. haha

This site gives some good critiques.
I loved that movie because it made the viewer think more on the meaning of life.
That even though we have ups and downs that to ralize that that is life experience gained.
I love Philosophical movies .Its like a mystery to solve and one gets differnt perspectives from all who view it.
Those people that prefer that the answers are cut and dry and given would not like these types of movies that are designed to incite discussion.
Well as someone who found ‘Benjamin Button’ boring I’ll say that I enjoyed The Tree of Life. So maybe’s it’s not necessarily a matter of needing things cut & dry and given.
I’ll grant that it does meander quite a bit, and, to be honest, it is pretentious, but I found it enjoyable nevertheless. It probably would have better succeed better in conveying its ideas with a more conventional narrative structure. I know even Sean Penn has basically said that what he read in the script doesn’t quite come across on the screen. But film is a visual medium, and it that aspect The Tree of Life succeeds like few others.
I like the premise of Benjamin Button, the film not so much. It was okay. I have to agree it was on the ‘tedious’ side of the spectrum. I think I’ll hunt out the story and read that. I have often though we do things back-to-front. Oh to have youth now I know so much more than I did back then. I’d really make good use of it.
The Tree of Life I just could not get into. I hated it.
