I don’t know anything about wine or alcohol and I’m not much of a drinker but I do enjoy drinks that taste more like fruit. Like fuzzy navel.
Any wines that taste like fruit?

German Rieslings from the Mosel River valley are very fruity, semi-dry whites. Hungarian tokays are fruity and semi-dry. Look for Spätlese or Auslese. Blue Nun Liebfraumilch is a cheap generic brand of fruity, semi-sweet German white wine. The California Tokay and Riesling varietals are very good and relatively inexpensive.

Mavrodaphne, the Greek national red desert wine is both fruity and extremely sweet. Traditionally when guests arrive, the women get little glasses of Mavrodaphne while the men swill Retsina which tastes like turpentine. The California Tokay and Riesling varietals are very good and relatively inexpensive.

Chateau Yquem, a Sautern, is the famous French desert wine lauded in literature around the world. A bottle of 2005 Chateau Yquem will run you about $250 wholesale, three times that at the table.

I’d go with the Rieslings too or a German Gewirtztramminer(sp?), and if you want real sweet and fruity, a Muscat is a lovely dessert wine.

Asti Spumante and Proseca are drier but have some of that fruity quality.

Try a rosé wine such as a White Zinfandel or one that has ‘blush’ in the name. They are deliciously fruity and sweet. Very quaffable. They are usually New World (California, Australia etc)

Oh, yeah. I forget the winery, but Sonoma Valley produced a white Zinfandel called Eye of the Partridge, for it’s beautiful pink/salmon color. Fruity and semi-dry. It was meant to be an unsophisticated wine, marketed to the young soft drink crowd of the 1970’s as a bridge to the more sophisticated wines of the same winery. I was just a tender young lad at the time with a crude palate looking for something with which to impress a date and I was sold by the name, but I also remember it as a very refreshing, clean wine. You might look for it. I remember it as very good and inexpensive.

You stated you are not a wine enthusiast. In my opinion you should not be spending more than $8 per bottle. You also said you want it to taste like fruit so you don’t need a fancy one loaded with complexities. Are you interested in sweet wines? Super sweet and easy to drink? If yes then I’d suggest Manischewitz Concord, or Manischewitz White Concord or Cream Peach. They taste exactly like the best of the fruit. The concord grapes taste like the ones in Welch’s grape jelly. The cream peach is just like peaches. Mmmm.
Wine aficionado will pooh pooh the choice as lacking complexity. Agreed. But that does not alter the fact that the wines are delicious! And they only cost about $5 per bottle! That is cheap enough to try and throw out if you don’t like it. But I’m betting you will like it.
Also unlike the more complex wines that vary in taste and quality from year to year (vintage), every bottle of Manischewitz tastes the same regardless of year. The residual sugar level is precisely adjusted to correct for year to year variations in grape sweetness.
The Mani you buy today will taste exactly like the Mani your parents let you sip when you were a child.
Try it. Don’t blame me if you get hooked.

By the way. When I am with company I say I like Masi Campofiorin. But, when I am alone or with close friends I’ll open the Manischewitz Concord or Peach. Yum!

I am a big fan of plum wine.
That might be worth your time.

There is a wonderful winery on the western slope of Colorado, called Colorado Cellars located in Palisade and their wine is absolutely wonderful. My favorite is the orange Moscato. They produce many types of fruit wine including cherry, peachy and blackberry.
