Xmarks had been recommended to me as way to keep browser favorites (aka, bookmarks) in sync among various devices.

But I seemed to have discovered a downside. I cannot delete any bookmarks that I no longer want! Also, I cannot put the bookmarks in a different order. When I delete a bookmark, it simply gets placed at the bottom of the list, it does not go away.

Is Xmarks responsible for this behavior? If so, how can I fix this? Their Help files have been no help. If not, what is the cause of this, and what can I try?

My PC is running Win 7 and IE 11.

Thanks!

I’ve had trouble when Firefox or Chrome’s built-in bookmark sync fights for control with Xmarks. I have to remember to be sure the built-in setting is turned off.

I don’t see a setting like that in IE 11, but I don’t know IE well. Could some other bookmark sync be active?

@Call_Me_Jay Can you tell me how to edit my bookmarks in Xmarks? I delete them, but then they reappear!
It’s possible iCloud may be involved as well. Do you use iCloud?

I don’t edit bookmarks in Xmarks, I edit them with Firefox or Chrome and Xmarks copies the changes.

I think you might have identified the culprit – the page below says iCloud does sync IE bookmarks.

@Call_Me_Jay Thanks for the tip. I think you were right. It looks like iCloud and Xmarks were fighting each other. I uninstalled Xmarks and went with iCloud because I have an iPhone and an iPad. Things are working OK now.
