MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYBODY. I just thought it would be nice to have one thread where we could all leave our best wishes to each other. And I really can’t figure a out a graceful way to end this in question format, OK?

Twas the night before Xmas and all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a goose.

The pussy cats were draped across the big bed while visions of gophers danced in their heads.

And in my purple bathrobe minus a cap was just settling in for my long winter nap.
When suddenly what to my eyes did appear, @Espiritus_Corvus our lively Buccaneer!

I sprang from my bed to leave a quick greeting now dash away, dash away, my electric blanket is heating. ;-D

Merry Christmas all, and to all a “good night”!

I hope everyone is having a fantastic day. We finally got the tree decorated this afternoon and put presents under it just in time to Skype with family so they could see us opening the presents they sent. Their presents are still here, some of them unwrapped still. It’s been a hectic month working more days than usual because there won’t be any work, most likely, for the next week. (called ‘mellomjul’ here because it is the time after Jul and before New Year) Also, woke up with a migraine because I over did it on Friday playing with the kids on the first snow fall we’ve had in weeks (which is all melted away already Thanks Climate Change ) But the we got dressed up, unwrapped presents in front of the camera for Skypeing with family in the city and down near Oslo. No fancy dinner. The boy asked for ‘American Pagan’ food, so it will be macaroni and cheese made from scratch, just as he likes it.

LornaLove's avatar

Happy Xmas everyone! It’s Xmas Eve here now nearly 6 pm. So, I gave in and decorated and we are running around like nuts getting stuff. We are not having turkey but chicken with a lemon stuffed up its butt! I am making fridge tart instead of Xmas pud. So yeah! an unconventional food layout.
I hope everyone is safe on the roads, have people around that love them and good stuff to eat. Not too many worries either. Happy Xmas!!!!

janbb's avatar

@cazzie Hope the migraine has abated.

ucme's avatar

@ZEPHYRA Bless your little cotton socks for asking, be sure i’ll send your good wishes on, no hamper but they can expect a generous xmas bonus in their new year pay packet :)

cazzie's avatar

@janbb yes, by about 13.30 I was ambulatory, with two helpings of Ibuprofen. My neck and shoulder still hurt, but not too much more than normal. The Mac and Cheese was a hit. I think I’ll visit with friends in Second Life, who, like me, have no friends or family to celebrate with. We’ll listen to poetry or dance or build something pretty and new. I now have my space ship, Absalom, and a pretty French Villa with a vineyard I’m calling Cote’ du Salon because I am hoping to host some very good company and conversations in the lovely living room area.

kritiper's avatar

@Coloma Yes, dag-nab it! It has snowed about every 4 days since about Dec. 7 and shut me down, work-wise. And too cold for it to melt, like usual. Last night and this morning about another 5” fell with maybe 2” more tonight. Looks like about 8” or 9” total on the ground already.
Everybody is always talking about having a “White Christmas. ” Hope they get their fill!
Hope yours isn’t too bad.

Well so far Christmas Day here has been a little cloudy with showers. It’s cooler so nobody is complaining. The presents have been opened, we’ve had a lovely breakfast and now we’re relaxing and doing nothing. One is playing games, two are napping and I’m Fluthering.

janbb's avatar

@Earthbound_Misfit Merry Christmas down under!

One of the things I love about Fluther is that I have close friends to visit all over the world!

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

Thank you @janbb. I hope your Christmas is wonderful. I know you certainly have many provisions prepared for a festive time. It is lovely to be able to virtually visit with friends all over the world.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Wouldn’t it be nice if some of you FB people could invite some of the old Fluther community members here?

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

Been there, done that, the thread got shut down because of how nasty things got. Hope 2017 goes as desired for everyone, whatever that might be. Since Christmas falls on the same day as Hanukkah, a Merry Chistmukka to you.

It’s Christmas Eve here in California. It’s raining. Yay! We’ve finally got snow in the mountains too. Another plus.

Merry Christmas to all of You.

jca's avatar

I went to church last night with my stepfather, my 9 year old daughter, my sister and her boyfriend. The boyfriend relationship seems serious. We arrived late to church and so had to split up – me, my stepdad and daughter in one section and my sis and her boyfriend in another. My daughter told me and my stepdad that she doesn’t like my sister’s boyfriend. I assured her that he’s new and so it’s a new experience having him with us but if she really doesn’t like him, that’s ok too. After church we went to my parents’ house to decorate the tree and eat some food. My sis and her bf started the lasagna which will be our Christmas dinner.

When I got to my home area, about 45 minutes away from my parents, I decided to drive past the big mall that’s about ten minutes away. I was just curious what it would be like. The whole mall area was black, closed. The roads around here were icy and my walkway is icy.

I have to go into my basement to get the gifts so I can wrap them but I don’t want to break my ass on the ice so I’m waiting a bit.

I’ll head down to my family’s later where we’ll have the lasagna and enjoy each other. This is our first Christmas without my mom, who died of cancer at the end of September.

Joining us for dessert tonight will be my parents’ good friend who just lost her hubby to cancer about two months ago (about a month after my mom died). Her son and his wife and kids will come too. It will be an adjustment for all of us. We all suffered big losses this year but we’re doing ok, I think.

I am still in my PJ’s and just might be all day after a fun, up til midnight Xmas eve hangout with my daughter. My 87 year old neighbor just brought me an adorable mail basket for my front door as she is into basket making and we share the same mailbox at the end of the road. She always gets my mail so now instead of leaving it by the door it has a cozy little basket to wait in. haha
So sweet!

Merry Christmas!! We had a good one.

Funny Christmas day story: We went to Rick’s dad’s house, like we do every year. He’s 94 so we don’t miss a chance, you know? His name is Bob.
Well, Bob has a brother-in-law who is only 75, and he was there. His name is Jack.
Jack and I were talking, and he asked me if Bob wore a hearing aid. I said I didn’t think so.
So Jack turned to Bob, who was only about 6 feet away, and said, “Bob. Do you wear a hearing aid?”
Dad says, “What?”
Jack said, “Do you wear a hearing aid?”
Dad cupped his hand around his ear, leaned forward and said, “What?”
Jack almost yells, ”Do you wear a hearing aid??”
Dad says, “No. Do you think I should?”
Man, we just fell about the place!

Soubresaut's avatar

Thank you @Espiritus_Corvus for this thread! I wish I had been able to see it sooner! I haven’t been especially efficient with time these past few weeks, but at least I got here before 2017 rolls in—Happy New Year’s Eve everyone!

My sister, mom and I made Christmas dinner, which was especially good since my sister made cheesecake and it was simply divine. We just do snacks for New Year’s Eve because after Thanksgiving and Christmas we don’t have any energy left for the multi-day prep of an elaborate dinner, and anyway snacks work better with board games and music.

Christmas morning was nice and quiet, but in a good way, although it was later in the day than most of us wanted (not technically morning once we started… but one of us slept a remarkable number of hours and probably needed it.)

Yesterday my mom, sister and I replaced the garage door mechanism—it was breaking down, not opening reliably and once opening in the middle of the night (one of us was up, heard it, and shut it, so it was spooky but okay.) We’re a reasonably handy family, but it took a surprisingly long time—most of that was negotiating the space in the garage, and trying to find the tools that my dad has strewn about the garage. There were also many more tiny steps than I’d guessed there would be. After that we made a ridiculous amount of guacamole because we had recently bought a ridiculous number of avocados.

We’re taking down the interior Christmas decorations today. We usually wait until the 2nd of January, but we store the Christmas boxes on a structure we built in the garage that hangs down from the ceiling, and we took them down to better reach the garage door mechanism. We’re going to put the decorations away before we put them back up.

No snow here—never any snow here—but we are getting rain. Apparently we’ve gotten enough rain these past couple of months that the drought is less severe than it has been. Just north of us their snow packs are building back up and they might be technically out of “drought” now—farther south they’re still pretty parched.

My plans have shifted. I’m still getting a teaching credential, but it’s in a new area now, and I’m going to be in school for another year after this. What I had planned on doing turned out not to be a good fit for the present me. I’ve been feeling frustrated at myself, but excitement is finally winning out, or the frustration is finally ebbing enough for me to really feel the excitement—this time I know it’s a better fit.

Wishing everyone the best in these final hours of 2016, and continuing into 2017.

Finally, because I have an affinity for xkcd and I think the 2017 comic was especially apt, I thought I’d share

Much love,
Soubresaut
