But nope. I guess I’m just a one soundtrack kinda guy.

It happens to me too, but not as often as you, and I’m very aware of it. It usually happens when I’m trying to remember a song, and then my desperate brain just picks up whaterver sounds right and fills in the gaps. It’s sort of like a scavenger hunt.

I tried to fuse “Enter Sandman” by Metallica with its Motorhead version in my head after I heard Motorhead’s version for the first time. I like both the singers’ voices. Pity they didn’t sing this one together, at least I don’t know they did. The Metallica’s singer (don’t know his name) has that powerful, clear voice, and Lemmy from Motorhead had that rough, “bark sounding” voice. My mind tells me they would be a nice duo, but since Lemmy’s dead, we’ll never hear them singing together, sadly. Here are their versions of “Enter Sandman” [1] [2].

The 999 song Homicide always has a guitar riff from Pushing To Hard whenever I sing it in my head.

Bump into each other, yes. Play simultaneously or overlaying as countermelodies, like an aural double exposure, no.

Yep, although with provocation. I listen to Pandora and have built a number of stations based on the jazz genre. On occasion, a particular group will do their cover of a chart I particularly like and after the track is done, I’ll often “replay” both the original and the just heard cover.
