This quote from a CIA memo on ‘enhanced interrogation’ helps explain why the Guantanamo detainees may never be released:
“Regardless which option we follow, however, and especially in light of the planned psychological pressure techniques to be implemented, we need to get reasonable assurances that subject will remain in isolation and incommunicado for the remainder of his life.”
In other words they were so ashamed of what they were doing they didn’t want anyone to know, ever. A Christian country? Maybe, but I’m sure Jesus would not have approved.
