Did Obama end automatic asylum for Cubans?

I just heard Obama ended the wet foot dry foot policy regarding Cubans. I had wondered what would happen regarding this policy now that America and Cuba can conduct commerce and tourism between the countries.

I heard it from a Trump supporter who said that liberals are in an uproar about Trump not letting refugees in, but here Obama in his final days changed policy that will block Cubans from coming in.

My reaction was totally different. My reaction was that I think a lot of Latin Americans here in the US will feel it’s about time Cubans have as much trouble as everyone else trying to come into this country.

What have you heard? Do you view Cuban refugees similar to refugees in the Middle East? I don’t. It looks like Cubans can still get asylum it’s just not as easy as putting your toes in the sand.

Yes, Obama put Cubans on the same basis as all other Hispanic immigrants.

And I put Middle Eastern refugees as being in much more dire circumstances. Things have eased considerably for Cubans in the last twenty five years.

He sure did, and on his way out the door!

Yes, he ended wet foot dry foot to put Cubans on the same basis as other Latin American immigrants. Totally different from Trump’s action which is to discriminate against large swathes of asylum seekers.

Yes. And it was long overdue, as far as I’m concerned.
