One that Mimi turned me on to just last week titled Cette nuit la, an obscure little French thriller/noir from 1958. 90mins, B&W and from the 20 minute mark you’re sitting on the edge of your chair. That’s if you’re not completely captivated by the beauty of Mylène Demongeot and her strong acting in the role of twenty year-old Sylvie, an exquisite Paris model and ambivilant wife of her magazine’s art director and nice guy, Maurice Ronet.
The magazine’s wealthy, aging, sociopathic publisher, played by veteran Belgian actor Jean Servais, is out after Sylvie bigtime which enrages her husband when Servais becomes flagrant about his intentions in public and around the magazine offices. Sylvie seems to enjoy the attention from this powerful man and even takes a little delight in her husband’s jealousy, but appears naive to where this could lead.
It leads into sex, jealousy, murder, blackmail and about six twists and turns characteristic of a good noir and one of the greatest scenes I’ve ever seen come out of an actress between marks 01:16:12 – 01:21:27 .
It is incredible that I’ve never heard of this film. There is very little of it to be found on the net, but I highly recommend it if you can find it and the .srt files for the English subtitles.
Let me tell you guys a little something about @Mimishu1995: She has great taste in film.
