I lived in San Antonio for over 20 years and loved it over Austin because the traffic, for one, in Austin is horrendous. Don’t get me wrong…traffic in San Antonio has it’s own problems but once you get the gist of the directions and city down, it becomes quite easy and you learn which routes are the best to take. San Antonio also is a big city with all the perks of a large city but at the same time, it has areas that have that “small town feeling” that make it feel so much better because you get the best of both worlds. You also have the benefit of the Hill Country and suburbs nearby like Bandera, Kerrville, New Braunfels (great place to go in the summer to take advantage of Schlitterbahn, the really wonderful water park as well as the rivers to go tubing) and there’s the San Antonio Spurs Basketball Team, which are always fun to watch, SeaWorld, and Fiesta Texas (Six Flags) and many great restaurants as well as the RiverWalk and all the many cultural places to visit. Austin is the music hub of Texas as well as most of the nation other than Nashville and they have lots of cultural advantages and good restaurants as well, but I’m still partial to San Antonio because I’ve been to both places for various lengths of time and San Antonio just keeps coming up on top ever time. But that’s just one Texan’s personal opinion and I hope it gives you a little bit of good info to think about and helps you make such a big decision in your move. Good luck and welcome to Texas when you get here!!!
