Do chromebooks have an antivirus? I gave myself a virus?

“Great Question” (2points)

I got an email today. “so and so shared a document with you” I clicked it. It took me to a page that asked me to allow certain permissions. Then, out of habit, I clicked allow without reading any of the permissions. It was taking a while to load and that’s when I noticed the “Allow drive to send, delete, and receive emails.” I went right down to the office when I read that and they said they don’t know what to do. They’ve gotten 8 students today who did this also. Is there any advice you guys can give? or should I wait until the school figures it out? Is there an antivirus I can download for my chromebook? I can’t find anything…

I feel so stupid, I’ve been in a cyber defense program for two years, and I carelessly click a link and give myself a virus.

I am unaware of any antivirus for Chromebooks. Google builds antivirus into the OS, but that doesn’t protect the computer from user error.

Last year, I received a similar sounding email from a friend, and I clicked it and input my password. That’s all it wanted. It wanted my password so the hackers could access my email account. When I realized what I’d done, I immediately reset my password. I also use the system where I receive a code by text message to my phone every time I log into my account from a new device. I think this is called 2-step verification. In order to log into my account, a person has to know my password and have my phone to receive the code.

Don’t beat yourself up too bad. We all make mistakes. I’m a very careful computer user, but I still revealed my password to a hacker.

Evidently, this is a large phishing attack.

Wonderful. I have tons of people in my contact list. And not all from school.

@SergeantQueen To be safe, change your password to your email account immediately.

Google may have fixed the scam. See the update at the end of this article

I can’t update my password on my own. The school has to do that. Thank you for your answers

I wish I could just give my computer an inoculation instead. Sounds easier.
