Doesn't it seem rude or scary how they are making food packages smaller with the same or higher price?

I went to the store weekly for a couple months and bought Clementines that were in 3lb bags. I was addicted. Two days ago the bags were 2lb for the same price. Is this infuriating or what? Or just plain scary? And a gallon of organic milk is at least five bucks.

A typical “pound” of coffee shrank to 13 oz. many years ago.

It’s done with a lot of things. Coffee in the pound can is no longer a pound. It’s about 11 or 13 oz.

Yogurt used to be 8 oz in a cup. Then it was 6 oz. Now it’s 5.3 oz.

it’s been going on my entire life. Candy bars, cereal boxes, 14 ounce pints of Haagen Dazs.

Its done all the time.

I’m glad the clementines are being packaged in 2lb bags though. Sometimes I can only find 5lbs. That’s ridiculous. I’m the only one who eats them in the house. Even the 3lb ages take me forever to get through.

Sometimes I’m very happy something got smaller and the price stayed the same, rather than the same huge size and raising the price. Clementines, I’m happy the bags are smaller. Chocolate bars and frozen pizza not so much.

Supply and demand @Aster. If there was a glut of clementines, then your store would be able to buy them much more cheaply. When they aren’t in season, they’ll go up in price. Our bananas are quite expensive at the moment because it’s not their prime growing season. In a few weeks, they’ll be cheap.

I was taught to price compare according to the price per unit, not by size. It always works.
