Happy Anniversary!

My husband and I just celebrated our 25th in April. We married young at the age of 21. He has an online radio station and he dedicated an album to me (of my choosing.) He talks between songs and he shared a few stories of our past and said some really sweet things. It was the best present ever. I have the link to it on my profile page.

My wife and I were married on Valentines Day 26 years ago. We have never given each other much in the category of presents. She always gives me a card. I buy her cards and live plants such as orchids, tulips or daffodils. Also there’s a plastic heart shaped box that I’ve given to her each year since 2001 that I fill up with gummy bears (her favorite candy).

One year Rick grilled steak and lobster at home. OMG, it was the best food I’ve ever eaten!
That’s the only thing we’ve ever done. I used to give him a small present, but after 5 years realizing he didn’t give me one, or a card or anything, I quit. No thang.

Our first anniversary was the Paper anniversary. I got tickets (paper) to a play called Tony and Tina’s Wedding. It was definitely an audience participation play starting with when you arrived at the theater they had an usher asking if you were with the bride or the groom. If you’ve never seen it, I’m sorry…I don’t think it is playing anymore. But that was by far the most fun we had on an anniversary yet. But this weekend we did a lot of stuff in our area…a concert, a comedy club, a magic/mayhem show, a movie in the park, fireworks, dinners out….it was all about us. And we loved it. I told her next year it was her turn to plan all the festivities.

My wife and I usually have grandkids in tow, we spend most anniversaries going somewhere with them. We had our 36th at freakin’ MacDonald’s, the little farts will hardly eat any where else. Oh well, that’s what 36 years od marriage gets you. And we love them to death.

My little farts don’t have a choice where we eat! We take them out to breakfast at lunch, we choose the place (a kid friendly cafe) they choose what to eat. If they complain, well, just don’t eat then! Never found ourselves in a situation where they refused to eat at all, just because they weren’t in a place they’d never been before.

But you love the little monsters, admit it. I have a hunch they know how to manipulate Gramma Dutchess, when the kiddie chips are down. : )

Manipulate…um. I allow them to sometimes, knowing full well what they’re doing. And it depends on what it is. But for the most part, they have the same regular rules their parents had. But I’m fun to be with so they like me, rules or no rules.

When we take them to eat we do not ask where they want to go.

One year he gave me my first laptop, another year, I got a new car all for myself. Last year he gave me a four day vacation at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee. It was really great. We’re going back this year.
P. S. (backstory) Most of our vacations are just regular days for me, because I have to take care of the food, dishes, clothes and just about everything else. This vacation was everything paid for.

The finances on the house were settled on Valentine’s Day.

The love gets deeper every year.

Each anniversary (of every kind) is a reminder of good fortune.
