Are you familiar with a restaurant called Sugar Factory?

Yesterday, Paul and I passed one during our trips to/from a Nationals game.

Normally, I pay no attention to chain and franchise restaurants, but there was something unusual about this place that intrigued me. Each time we walked past, the restaurant was filled to capacity – both inside and at the sidewalk tables – but only with African American customers.

Our region is very diverse and integrated. It’s startling to look inside any restaurant and not see a mix of people from various ethnic backgrounds.

I’m curious why this place, Sugar Factory, is such a strong draw for one ethnic subculture yet, it would seem, nobody else.
