In terms of human diet and lifestyle, and considering the various habits we have which include sexual proclivities and exercise (or more likely, not exercising), depression, solitude and other emotional aspects of life… mercury poisoning from over-consumption of tuna (whether canned or fresh) is probably one of the least likely things to damage your health. This is not to say that you should ignore it, or that it doesn’t exist, only that it probably isn’t a major concern for you.
You’re more likely to be injured or killed in an auto accident (or as a pedestrian victim of an auto accident) than from a lifetime accumulation of mercury from eating tuna. I also don’t mean by that statement that you should sit on the couch watching television all of the time – while eating tuna on crackers – and never go outside again.
All things in balance.
Enjoy your tuna on crackers. But then get out and take a walk, too. And meet a girl and kiss her, even though that is probably the riskiest thing you will ever do. Still, do it. What’s the point of living if it’s not to take an occasional risk, and live to tell about it?
Besides, the carbs in the cracker are far more dangerous to you over time than the mercury in your fish.
