I think you’re right, you can go crazy with too much as well as with not enough. When I was dead broke, I thought about money all the time, like nonstop. That was nuts. I’ve never had to worry the other way.
Above “not enough” is “enough,” and above “enough” is “comfortable margin.” Above that, it’s all about the same, until you get to a level where your money owns you and you have to pay somebody to take care of it for you. That’s “too much.” If I were ever close to that, I hope I would know it and avert it before it made me crazy. I would not want to be that woman in Massachusetts who won $485 million in the lottery.
Right now I’d be more than happy with “comfortable margin.” But I’d probably still worry even if I had that.
