Why is there a hole in the detergent containers of many brands at the top?

So there is the spout but if the container is not full or full enough the liquid ends up coming out of the hole and spills

It’s a drainage hole, so after you’ve measured out the fluid from the lid, and placed the lid back on, the remaining bits of detergent in the lid drain back into the bottle instead of pouring out all over you next time you open it.

That’s all it’s about? I thought we just rinse the lid and pour into thé washer to solve that problem or “problem”.
