I just got all my blood test done for my heart palpatations.
Everything came back fine, the Dr said ‘all good,’ but I wanted to know see them.
So my ALP for my liver test was 39 and the range is 40 – something?
My Dr was not concerned and didn’t offer me another blood test or anything. She just said, ‘It’s fine’.
Anyone else had low ALP and the Dr was really unconcerned?

No worries

20 instead of 40 a problem!

It’s so borderline I wouldn’t worry. Plus, I think the normal range varies with age? That might be a different age. Low can be related to malnutrition, have they checked some vitamins and minerals for you? It’s interesting considering what Chelle wrote about her heart on the other Q.

Yeah it is actually @JLeslie – I always think of myself as being quite healthy but the stress of having anxiety I’m sure stops food from being absorbed. The Dr said it’s not an indication of anything and she’d expect it as I’m quite slim – what-ever that means!? So I’m on the low side definitely as it’ 40–120? I think?

I doubt you have absorption problems. Maybe thin people tend to be on the low side. If you had the test run again in two weeks it might be 42. I wouldn’t worry. Maybe test it once a year and see if it goes lower.

Have you been tested for various vitamins? Are you very skinny?

Thanks @JLeslie – I’d buy you some chocloates and flowers if i could for always being so helpful!

I was going to get it tested again in a month anyway – just for me.

Don’t worry about it.

My advice is, if the doctor says don’t worry about it, don’t worry about it.

One other word of caution: If the results were nothing negative, the insurance company may not pay for you to be tested again in a few weeks. I was told that recently when my TSH level was perfect, and it’s usually high. I suggested to the doctor that maybe it’s a flawed result and I should be tested again in a few months, and she said the insurance company may not pay for that, since the results were normal.

I wouldn’t test again in a few weeks. I’d wait 6 months or a year. It wasn’t wildly out of range.

Trends are more important then numbers (Range is 20 to 140 for ALP by the way)
So if a year ago it was 85 and now it is 39 something is going on.

tan253's avatar

I went over my last blood tests and I can’t find any numbers for it – is it called ALP or something else on the results paper?

tan253's avatar

So if range is 20 – 140 then I’m well in range – so even if the trend is going low – I don’t need to worry?
I think I’m just going to trust the Dr on this one and not worry about it – get it tested again in 3 months ;) (she says after saying she’ll trust….) – it’s a start!

Don’t worry about it. Don’t retest. It’s normal. It’s nothing. Move on.
