Which product could it be?
-It is supposed to be eaten in most the world.
-It’s more than one brand,
-It can be made at home.
-It’s a recent thing (a few months old)

I was going to say cilantro also.

It is supposed to be a prepared food, Combine a few ingredients and it goes in the oven for an hour or something But it’s not the homemade version that’s supposed to taste soapy it’s the store bought version. A few brands.

What is the food, pasta sauce?

I’m confused (shockingly).

I think cilantro tastes like soap.

I’m not aware of any food that is “supposed” to taste like soap.

Did you experience a soapy-tasting food? If so, would you mind sharing what it was?

We can’t just guess what you were eating.

Also, did you thoroughly rinse your dishes ahead of time?

Cilantro? Well, that explains a lot. I get a white cheese dip, which I love, for my chips at our favorite Mexican restaurant. I always wonder why it tasted soapy. I thought maybe the didn’t rinse the bowl well enough.
Well, answered THAT question anyway.

^^It’s funny how things come full circle or dots connect.

Supposedly, Ashkenazi Jews have the highest incidence of cilantro tasting like soap. Northern Europeans not far behind.

Dutchess_III's avatar

What was @flo‘s question anyway?

Muad_Dib's avatar

I definitely qualify as Northern European.

So, the question is what prepared food like soup or baked item, or the examples in @RocketGuy‘s post, ...or anything , (not an ingredient example cilantro etc.) has lately_ tasted like soap to you, or heard or read about?

Nothing, ever, until this post.

Except that one time I literally licked soap batter off my hand while cooking. I learned not to make soap and dinner at the same time. With a quickness.

The white cheese sauce I get for dipping my chips in at Mexican restaurants has always tasted a bit soapy to me. As others said, it probably has cilantro in it.

And ALL soups and baked items have different ingredients in them. You can’t discount the ingredients, @flo.

But if a prepared item has cilantro in it is identifiable, and it wouldn’t be a recent (in the last few months) thing. So, noone would think to call the makers of the item to ask them if they’ve added a new ingredient and that it tastes soapy. Cilantro would have always tasted like soap to those who taste soapyness in it.

@flo You’re right. So are there other products that are tasting soapy to you because it doesn’t seem like that’s happening to most of us?

flo's avatar

No.

So what the hell is this question about?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Do you have the answer to your question @flo? And the reason you asked it?
