It gets a lot of play – not just at funerals, but during the holiday season, because it sounds religious (the tune), the words are sort of religious and pious, and it gives a pseudo-solemn message.
It is considered innocuous and inoffensive to other religions (and believers in other religions) because it’s not “in your face” with Jesus or Christ or “Resurrection” like the way that so many other religious songs are.
Because of that – sort of a generic piousness that is not going to offend people – it is versatile and can be used at a variety of occasions.
