I wouldn’t go so far as to say I “own” any, but there are certainly topics where I will chime in every time (or close), and there are topics in which I would venture to say I bring a useful perspective that few or no other Fluther members can bring.

For medical questions, we have at least one jelly who is a physician, and his responses on those are invaluable. But in some cases, I can bring a patient perspective, which is a point of view that is different from the physician perspective and valuable in its own way. So I will chime in every time, if a fellow jelly has a question about digestive health, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, small bowel obstruction, colectomy, ileostomy, kidney stones, sepsis, pleurisy, or any other of the medical conditions I’ve had the joy to experience :).

As a fairly inexperienced but indeed professional software engineer / data engineer, I can often provide a useful perspective on questions related to that, whether technical in nature or about the culture of the field.

I also know quite a lot about healthcare politics, birds, and math, and tend to chime in on those questions.

On here? I couldn’t say. I remember WAY back in the AB days they had rankings for the different categories. I used to be #1 in Religion and Pregnancy.

The closest I am to “owning” a subject is being knowledgeable about recovery from substance abuse and codependency. But there are others on here who are just as knowledgeable, including one who is a licensed social worker.

Ownership is too much responsibility for me. I am fine with being a voice in the crowd.

With this post, I hereby stake my claim to all questions about muffins. I plant my flag in blueberry muffins. I assert my divine right to English muffins. I am lord and sovereign over all muffin-dom. They’re mine! Get yer dirty paws off! Grr!

What is a malasada then?

@Hawaii_Jake ? A muffin?

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

Only the plain malasadas. You can keep the filled ones.

The ridiculous ones.

We have an abundance of technical people so I would not say I own any. There are several other engineers and tech types so my contributions get muddled in with theirs. I don’t see any real subject matter experts on this site anyway. There are some true renaissance men and women here and some that don’t know much of anything but provide good conversation and perspectives. There are a couple people who I feel are our “area specialists” though. I have some obscure hobbies and unique work experience that would make me one of those specialists if anyone ever asks the right questions.

Kidney donating. Yeah, that’s not really a common topic, but I still own it!

I owned yelling at Bernie dead-enders and election abstainers until I felt sick over it. I regenerated under a new user name in an effort to bury the bad feelings. I try to be a better Jelly.

I hosted “What’s your brush with greatness?” a few times. Holy moly, do you want to read a wonderful thread? Check this out.
