Politicians and Harry Potter?

“Great Question” (4points)

In a recent interview Barack Obama was asked who is favorite Harry Potter character was, to which he replied “Dumbledore’s a very cool guy.” He then skipped over the whole purple robes and high heeled boots thing (“Well, he’s gay, apparently.” Obama: ”[laughs] No comment on that.”), but it got me thinking; Who is Barack most like in the book? And that got me thinking, what other politicians resemble Harry Potter characters?

Also, are there any that she actually based off British politicians?

Some ideas: Gilderoy Lockhart? Minerva McGonagall? Aberforth Dumbledore? Crouch, Fudge, Scrimgeour and Umbridge?

Bush = Lord Voldemort?

I actually don’t think Bush is evil per se, though, just not all hearts and flowers and brains.

Bush = Gilderoy Lockhart after he casts the confundus spell on himself?

Bush = either Crabbe or Goyle. From Wikipedia:
...“both brawn-over-brains type; they are entirely lacking in introspection or inquisitiveness. They seem unable to make up their own minds or to see things their own way; they generally act upon Malfoy’s instructions. Nonetheless, Crabbe is depicted as slightly more intelligent than Goyle; ”

@Gail would that make Karl Rove Malfoy?

What about Dick Cheney = Snape? Maybe Gerald Ford = Neville Longbottom? Bush is also a lot like Peter Pettigrew aka Wormtail. Nancy Pelosi = Professor Trelawney, Condelezza Rice = Professor McGonagal

I would have reversed Nancy Pelosi and Condi (whom I am not a fan of).

@SuperM: Wormtail is too smarmy and self-ingratiating. Bush has some very odd arrogance.

Too much for my overworked brain. Someone in the present admin. has to be Lord V., manipulating and pulling strings. Rove, perhaps. Certainly Rowling did some scary satire on the rise of Fascism, among other things.

And I have a long way to go on book 7, so I don’t know how things turn out.
