In USA.
Well they pay what everybody else pays. If they made a million dollars minus costs of doing business, the standard taxes. About $200,000 income it costs a lot to run an office (33% tax rate) $66,0000.
While what @Tropical_Willie wrote is true in some cases, the answer is a bit more complex in the US.
If the doctor works for a hospital or something similar as an employee then that person is paid a salary and pays taxes on his income just like I do.
If the doctor has formed his own corporation – which is not difficult to do—then there are all sorts of other rules that come into play. And because it is a corporation, some income and many costs that would otherwise be paid by the doctor, would be accrued to the corporation. Depending on how it is set up, a huge amount of taxes can be reduced by being in a corporation.
And it gets even more complicated if the doctor is a member of a partnership, because there are even more arcane rules to how partnerships are valued and taxed.
So there is not one single answer to your question. It depends on a whole lot of legal stuff and tax planning.
