I’m feeling overwhelmed and it’s making me feel bitter. What’s a healthy way to deal with this mood? Everything is pissing me off.

asking in social because humor is needed, for real

I’m in a grouch this morning too. Just made a cup of tea and going back to bed. :-)

In Holland, when we spill salt, on the floor, or the sofa, etc., we throw red wine over it, to neutralize it.
Or was it the other way around?
So yeah, wine.
Or whine.

Physical exercise may help.

Go take some of your beautiful photographs. You will get wrapped up in nature and forget about things for a while at least.

Chyna—you are forgetting that when you are in one of those moods that everything pisses you off, everything looks tacky, nothing works right, and everything annoys you. Taking beautiful photographs in nature will never feel worth the time or effort.

@Yellowdog @Aethelwine is a professional photographer so @chyna is suggesting something she knows the OP has a passion for.

Disengage from whatever is making you angry. Get off social media. Make a plan to either solve the problem, or actively ignore it. Make it your priority to do something (or many things) that are useful for someone else. Make a plan, today, to do something enjoyable in the next few days, next week, or next month, with people that you like. That way you have something to anticipate, and eventually something fun to do.

Stay away from negative things, newspapers, media, TV programs and focus on more positive things. Things that nurture you, please you and make you feel whole again. I have what I call ‘triggers’ and one of them, for example, is the British Daily Mail. It’s a complete rag, it’s sexist, racist and thick generally. I am always pissed off when I leave there.

Do something tactile, sex, cook, clean, plant, whatever. Go for a walk. Laugh with friends and family, people who like and love you.

*sex was supposed to be sew, but I’ll leave it in there as sex is good?

Thanks everyone. I slept in and that helped a bit. The wind is howling like it’s the dead of winter and it’s snowing, so I’m snuggled in my bed watching some Kung Fu and eating ice cream. I might go outside and take a photo of some spring flowers in our yard with this snow falling.

Something amazing happened today. We received a very large anonymous donation to the GoFundMe account we have set up for our son to help make his life a bit easier. This donation is going to help us get the ball rolling on our move. I’m in shock and in tears. Just when I was feeling down and hopeless we received this blessing. This was a good reminder to never let the bad outweigh the good. There are more people who care about my son than those who want to hurt him. This is something I can’t forget!

Thanks again! Great advice from all.

@Aethelwine That’s amazing, good news!

I have a heavy bag 100lb (punching bag.) I have recommended it for many people. You can really get some frustration worked out.

I’m very happy to hear the good news. I don’t really get much good news these days. From what I know, you are a well deserving person. It honestly makes me feel good to hear about others overcoming life’s strife. I’m not doing cartwheels, but a smile graced my face:)

@MrGrimm888 Thank you! I do like the idea of a punching bag. Not only is it good exercise but as you said, works for frustration as well.

^Yeah man. After my house flooded multiple times, I just kept my heavy bag on the floor wherever I was staying. You can still at least give it a few good ones on the ground. Sometimes I just punch until I can’t lift my arms. But it’s a great relief.

I. DID. NOT. DO. IT!!!

Yellowdog's avatar

When I was six years old, I hit a punching bag really hard and it bounced back and hit me really hard in the face.

Being six, I assumed its purpose was to teach you to fight, and fought back,

When my grandson was 4 and he threw a softball in the house, even as I was telling him not to. It hit the back of the couch and came back and nailed him right in the forehead and knocked him down!
